Glow sticks-Broken, yet glowing

Glow sticks-Broken yet glowing

definition

I was in a Dollar store last night, and there were two boys and a lady behind me in line. One was a big kid, and one was a toddler. The oldest had a pack of glow sticks and the toddler was screaming for them. So the mom opened the package and gave him one, which stopped his tears. He walked with it smiling but then the eldest took it and made the baby cry again. Just as the mom was about to fuss at the oldest child, he bent the glow stick and handed it back to the toddler. As we walked out at the same time, the toddler noticed that the stick was now glowing and his brother said, “I had to break it so you could get the full effect from it.”

glow

I almost ran because I could hear God saying to me, “I had to break you to show you why I created you. You had to go through the tribulation so you could fulfill your purpose.” The toddler was happy just swinging that “unbroken” glow stick because he didn’t understand what it was created to do, which was to “glow.”

Reflexion

A glow stick is straight and dull, worthless plastic(just as us without salvation). Once it’s broken and the light starts to glow, it represents the light of Christ that glows within us once we live spiritually. There are some people who will be content just “being.” But some of us that God has chosen have to be “broken.” We get ill, go through a funeral, a relationship heartache, or any other tribulation. In those moments of desperation, God is breaking us, but once the breaking is done, we will be able to see the reason for what we were created here on earth. Linda Monserrat~

What a wonderful reflexion! Your writing reminds me of what happened before I got married.
3 months before I married my fiance, I found a romantic chat with another woman on his mobile phone. What turns out, the woman is his FWB who has a long enough relationship. Even before I got engaged.

After reading that chat, my heart broke to pieces and made me no longer trust my fiance. Even though, my fiance kept promising me that he would not repeat it again. Had thought, want to end the relationship.

But at night, suddenly the God reminded me to trust him. And at that time, I was filled with an extraordinary peace and joy from the Holy Spirit to believe in him.

And it is true, until now (it has been 10 years of marriage), my husband has never been in contact with that woman and he even loves me and my child even more.

Well, sometimes God’s ways no one ever knows. Although sometimes we must be broken first, but believing in God will not give any regret. Because God knows the best for us.

By the way, in your opinion, do you think all people who believe in God should feel the same event (like Job) too?

You have a wonderful way with words Lindy and this was a cute story. I’m sure that little child was delighted with his broken glow stick. I’m always concerned with the having to be broken to know god idea. Sounds like it is deliberate, which I know it’s not. Life can be brutal.

We all get challenges in our lives and certainly some people do crash and burn with despair but I would like to think that the energy that surrounds us doesn’t need a figurehead to direct it. I know that I can control the energy around me (good and bad) with my thoughts and actions. We tend to draw good people to us with our own personal energy.

Still not convinced, but a sweet story.

The glow stick is a great analogy.  Glow sticks are meant to be waved in the dark.  To carry your analogy a bit further, once God touches our broken lives and glow with the warmth of the creator’s love, we shine for others around us still in darkness.  Certainly not lording it over them, but touching them with love because of what we have felt.  I looked over much of your site, you have done a great deal of work providing a refuge of inspiration for your readers.  Thanks.

Hey, Thank you for writing on Glow sticks-Broken, yet glowing. I noticed as we walked out at the same time, the toddler noticed that the stick was now glowing and his brother said, I had to break it so we could get the full effect from it.
