Epilepsy Awareness Month-November

What is epilepsy?

Epilepsy is known as a medical condition in the nervous system which produces seizures; also known as convulsions.

Medical term for Seizures

Seizures are known as “Uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain”, which may produce a physical convulsion, minor physical signs, thought disturbances, or a combination of symptoms.  The type of symptoms and seizures depend on where the abnormal electrical activity takes place in the brain, what its cause is, and such factors as; the patient’s age and general state of health.  Seizures can be caused by head injuries, brain tumors, lead poisoning, wrong development of the brain, genetic and infectious illnesses, as well as fevers. In behalf of the patients with seizures, no cause can yet be found. There are several type of seizures such as grandmal, tonic colonic, absence and more.

The spiritual scene behind the seizure

I, (Linda) used to have seizures of all sort. I tried all combinations of medication and none worked. Neurologists placed the “Ketogenic diet” as an option and the Canola Oil as well. Nothing worked. One day, I came to Christ and after 5 years of getting to know the Lord, I came across this passage in the scripture. (Mark 9:14-29) and was so amazed.

And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit; And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should cast him out; and they could not. He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.  And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming. And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child. And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Mathew 9: 17-29 KJV

I couldn’t believe what I was reading because it was so precise. I had heard people say that epileptics were possessed by the devil and other nonsense. Though the scripture mentions a spirit named “Dumb death” or “Mute deaf” depending on the version one reads. Though it does mention this in the book of Mark pertaining seizures, it does not mean it  pertains to each single epileptic. He who says you cannot do things because you may be possessed is wrong! Let the light of the Lord be glorified through you!

I am alive till this day because the Lord protected me. As I type, I realize that my book should be written and published. There are so many people with seizures out there who feel like nobody understands them, But I want you to know I understand you both as a minor and as an adult. As a teen and also lost many friends because of it. I too soaked my eyes in tears feeling that no man would love me and accept me because of it. I was wrong. That fear brought many issues my way. I feared not bearing children, but God told me it would all be ok. There is so much to my story which I would love for you all to read but for now, I just continue to type in this blog by sharing the gospel with you all because seriously, if it weren’t for Him, I don’t know where I would be.

The supernatural scene known as the unseen

I was at a school’s cafeteria and began seeing a small clear bubble grow and grow captivating a 4 year old boy in front of me. The boy was inside the bubble; so I began to pray.  Hence, the bubble was coming toward me as it tried to get me as well but failed because I fought in prayer towards spirit and principalities. Not even a second later, the little 4 year old boy began to convulse. The bubble was the spirit. We live in a spiritual world and it is supernatural; goes beyond our eyes. Yes, one may think I and many others are crazy, but that’s not the case. Many people believe that “one has  to see it to believe it” Therefore, let them witness!

Hello Linda, I must say that this article is very helpful and informative. Unfortunately, my cousin suffer from this terrible disease but we learned to live with that. He is taking his medicaments for 5 years and I really hope that someday he will be better and stop taking pills. God is big and to him, everything is possible, we should only have a strong faith.

Epilepsy is a terrible scourge,I know as I have a wife who suffered from it for many years, she fell from a horse and suffered a head trauma, and after the birth of our first child it started, she was feeding the baby, when I heard crying, when I investigated, she was having a convulsion, and the baby had rolled down onto her legs.

The Doctors prescribed phenbarbitone, and epinutin, which she had to take morning and evening, she still had occasional attacks, but generally her health was good, but she was still taking these drugs for 56 years, and only last year, did the Doctor discontinue the treatment partially.

The scriptures give us Christ’s instructions for dealing with epilepsy”this spirit comes out, only by prayer and fasting”,as a Christian I decided, during one of my wife’s attacks to command the spirit to come out of her,as I did this my wife’s eyes opened,(although she was unconcious) and the attack stopped, immediately.

Jesus still does amazing healings today, and many miracles,as many people testify.     As we watch Christian TV programmes, and see people healed in front of our eyes,God is great and we praise Him, for all that He is, and for all that He does.

  3. John says:

If Jesus Christ came, then why not he’ll definitely do it now just like in your story. The only way to that is through prayer. Gladly, anyone can be Victorious because he is here for us all. Around here, an epileptic is not touched when they hit a seizure. It is very unfair because I think that it is not any spirit. There should be a medical explanation to it.

    • John, I wave witnessed it being spiritual; hence it is written. At times, it may not be but most of the time it is spiritual. The thing is; this specific one is tied to curses usually related to iniquity.

Thanks for this information, I didn’t know world epilepsy awareness month was in November I guess I was having the wrong idea of it been in march, well thanks for the correction I guess I have to show more love, raise public awareness by lighting up the streets purple, securing proclamations from every place possible and participating in events throughout the region. Thanks for sharing.

Like I have always believed that, everything in the physical is the manifestation of the spiritual and only when God is involved can everything be settled with ease. I could not help but marvel at the discovery you made while reading the world of God about epilepsy and seizures. This happen to a lot of people and most of them have given up hope but No, since the Lord is still on the throne, I believe everything is still possible with Him because he knows it all. This is really inspiring and I’d love to share it out. Thanks

  6. Vanessa says:

Just last week I heard a preacher say, if it can’t be cured physically, then it’s spiritual. I had a cousin who fell constantly for no reason at all. The doctors could not find anything wrong with her. But without going into the details, it was clear that the supernatural is real and people are fooling themselves if they think otherwise.

Like you, I can definitely relate to the Lord’s protection over my own life. Just recently I was reflecting on that and thanking God for his protection from the seen as well as the unseen. We have no idea of all the things God protects us from on a daily basis and I can’t imagine my life without Him in it. So many people look for peace and love in material things and people. But they’ll only have true peace and love via a personal relationship with the Lord.

    • Vanessa, I couldn’t have said it better myself.
“If it can’t be cured physically, it’s spiritual.”
I pray to show people the supernatural side of this spiritual life.
Without the supernatural part; there is nothing ;(

Hi Linda! I had thought that passage in Mark could describe what today is known as seizure. But I also understand that not all seizures are “dumb and deaf spirits”. So I hesitate to take any firm conclusion.

But what I do know is that the Lord Jesus Christ was loving and carrying in that case and also is for any case of seizure today. “O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever.”

Great article,I believe the spiritual control the physical and whatever happens to man must have been settled in the spiritual realm, epilepsy is a shameful and disgraceful dilemma which requires divine assistance, and the bible says in Jeremiah 32 vs 27,I am the God of all flesh is there anything impossible for me to do?,I witness a brother who ride a bicycle and convulsion took over him and he left the bicycle and just walk away after the scene,he could not recollect anything there after, its a bad thing,I pray God deliver whoever suffering from it,thanks for sharing.

Thanks for this uplifting post about epilepsy awareness month!  I’m happy to see you found peace with it and aren’t allowing it to hold you back.  Everyone deserves peace in their lives.  I myself have anxiety thanks to a genetic quirk that I’ve had to learn to be at peace with.  It’s never going away.  It’s not ME, the anxiety, just as seizures don’t define people either.  I had a friend who had seizures after a head injury.  Unfortunately, he wanted to deny they were happening so he didn’t lose his license and got in a serious car wreck recently. He should have read this blog.  Thanks for this!

Thank you Linda. I did not know that epilepsy awareness month is November. I have a sense of epilepsy-awareness because one of my best friends gets seizures. She is not sure why but she tries to do some things to help with it. I try my  best to be supportive but there is not much I can do to actually “cure” her from epilepsy.

Another friend, their son got seizures. Sometimes there will be a while without one but it happens again and then they feel sad.

I think it’s good that there’s an epilepsy awareness month so people can be more aware of the subject. Thanks!

  11. RoDarrick says:

I accept your submission that the world is beyond the physical and unless God helps, nothing can be done for any man. Epilepsy nonetheless is a very disgraceful sickness that tends to push people away from one. I had a church sister who suffered from epilepsy at some time and most times, the convulsions do happen at church or during Evangelism. But later on during an anointing service, she got delivered and she hasn’t convulsed since then.

    • RoDarrick,
This sounds a lot like my testimony. People think that when ministering is going on; the spirit cannot be manifested because the anointing is there but that is not the case. On the contrary, it will manifest to be casted out in His Holy name.

  12. Dave Sweney says:

it is fitting that you have posted this article for the many people that suffer from epilepsy and the parents and loved ones that suffer right with those afflicted. There is help out there and it lies within us through the power the He grants to us when we become a believer.

I have witnessed healing before using that power and the key I believe is having faith in God and the power that you have been granted. You are definitely tapping into it for good, and I am happy that you are able to and that you can help others with that power.

Epilepsy is something that often defies any explanation or diagnosis, and it is likely that some may be possessed with an evil spirit. There are things that are out there that we cannot perceive fully, and it is through the grace of God and his love that we can deal with anything, to include those things we cannot see.

    • Very true Dave,
The situation is that now that I am not where I used to be with this; when I read epilepsy forums; it sounds so awful. I just want to tell them all how I was released in Jesus name.

  13. Jag Mahil says:

Wow! That is a lot of information you’re providing in regards to seizures. Wonderful that you found a Scripture that is helped you to overcome the hardships you have suffered.

I too read scriptures every day which helps me to keep moving forward with my life. I find that each day is a struggle if I don’t meditate a scripture in the morning.

My favorite Scripture is Psalm 139:13. I know in my mind that whatever he’s put together is perfect. Glad that you found your safe space in that one Scripture.

  14. Mark says:

Epilepsy is such a terrible thing to live with, for sure. I had a childhood friend with epilepsy and saw her have countless seizures over the years. The first time I saw that, I was maybe 8 years old. I didn’t know what was going on and was afraid she was dying. I’m glad you’re putting this out there, because there are lots of people out there who haven’t got a clue about epilepsy. Thanks for sharing!

  15. Andy Zeus Anderson says:

I am proud that you turned to God for understanding and found faith as aid with this terrible burden. Remember all challenges in life are by God’s design to make us stronger. To test our faith, to bend our will and see if our faith is truly strong or if we need more work at being good Christians. I love your blog and have bookmarked it to come back when I have more time and read a lot more.
