What is the church?

Many people have the concept that the church is the building where believers go to praise the Lord. However, that definition is incorrect. The church is actually the body of Christ; while the building where one reunites is called a congregation.

“Now you are Christ’s body,
and individually members of it.”
(1 Cor 12:27)

One becomes part of his body the moment one decides to make a declaration of faith, proclaiming his or her salvation. Not just because one say’s it; but because one truly means it. If one did not truly mean it; one did not get saved. Many may speak it; but few will mean it.

“He is also head of the body, the church;
and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. “
(Col 1:18)

Being head of the body indicates the church is His bride. For he created the earth and everything including science, he is the beginning. For Christ rose from the dead on the third day of being crucified and left his spirit in us; named holy spirit; he is the firstborn from the dead. He is the beginning and the end; without placing him as our number one in life; our life will be in confusion. Once this is being understood, one knows what pure and real love is. For he died for us all and is taking care of us as we live.

“And He put all things in subjection under His feet,
and gave Him as head over all things to the church,”
(Eph 1:22)

The church means the family of Christ. So we must submit to him as we should biblically submit to our parents. If he gave us power as the church to do what Jesus did; then we must obey and spread the good news that JESUS LIVES. There is nothing more besides this that we could possibly do.

“For the husband is the head of the wife,
as Christ also is the head of the church,
He Himself being the Savior of the body. “
(Eph 5:23)

As mentioned earlier, He is the husband and his body is the wife. Shouldn’t a husband love his wife with all his heart, all his life, and all his soul? Well this is just a preview of how much He loves us. Shouldn’t a husband take care of his wife? This is what He does for His wife, the church. His body is being taken care of. However, we must submit to His law and this will only be done through obedience.

What is the world?

The world is what you see around you. Do you ever feel like you can’t press on? That is because the world is full of destruction and abomination such as; oppression, wrath, bitterness, identity loss, abuse, unforgiveness, unfaithfulness, lies and so on. This is the world; this is the type of thing one sees every single day, everywhere one goes. Ain’t that true? Failure of obedience and faithfulness towards Him. Because one who is not obedient and faithful to Him, will not be faithful nor obedient to others.

If you can deal in the Church, you can deal in the World.

Pastor Joshua Reyes

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
Ephesians 6:12

This is a perfect response to when one wonders why people in the world are full of wrong doing. The daily temptation within these wrong doings is not one’s fault; but the enemy’s. However, making the choice in obeying the temptation is one’s fault. One will also see injustice in the church because the church is the body of Christ and the enemy is after its souls; to bring more people to quit believing in Christ. Except, the church is filled of biblical principles which will sustain the church for the biblical principles is the law, God’s law. His law. While the world stands for doing whatever it is one cares for, which are the temptations the enemy places within one.

Who is the head authority of the world?

Unfortunately, the enemy. The enemy’s name is Satan or worldly known as the devil. He was God’s right hand ; an Angel. But he got prideful where he wanted to get rid of God. Therefore, God defeated him and created the Seoul; known as the pit of hell where he lives for eternity. He had to create it so Satan could stay there and only become prince of the world and not God’s children. He made him prince of the world so people could continue to seek Him; for the word was already written. Yes, the church is all the people who have been saved from their sins and are living a righteous life. And I am happy to say I am one of these people, the church. The head of these people is Jesus Christ. We are in the world but we are not of the world. The world here is sin. 1John 2:15 says we should not love the world. It refers to the sinful acts of the world. And the head of all sinful acts is satan.

I love your site!  Firstly thank you for pointing out the popular misconception right at the outset about What is the church. So it is not the building and it is NOT just the priests (in light of people leaving the church due to errors of some priests), as you say is the body of Christ which includes all believers (not just the building/congregation and the priests). You have provided a very ‘elevated’ perspective, by elevated I mean that it really gives people a chance to think.  Are you driven by God or by worldly things?  If so who is the head authority of the world?  This is a real eye opener for many I feel that are lost in worldly matters and have ignored the spirit and real meaning of life.Thank you for sharing, please share this post widely.  I’d love more people to read it (I’ve shared in a prayer group I am in).Thank you!

SpiritualLife, Being a Christian and raised in the church, I commend you on taking these scriptures and placing the meanings to them that you have in layman’s terms for the people to understand them.  I could not agree with you more in the meaning you have done a wonderful job in translating them to the world and I thank you.  Surely God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit are surrounding you at this time and very proud of you walking within the path for them.Bless you,Susan

It is important that during these times when the world is more evil than ever that there should be more blogs that preach Christianity. We need to have places where we would be reminded that the life we are living is not the plan God had for us.

It is rather sad because now adays a lot of the churches out there don’t preach or focus on Christ. They are so interested in making money that they are even beginning to neglect their Christ ways.

The church is supposed to be a sought of light to the unbelievers. They are suppose to be an example to the people of this world but instead they are going after their own selfish reasons.

I do have a question. Is it a must one goes to church regularly? Can’t my church be inside my house?

    • Jay,
The scripture does say to congregate; which means to unite as one. Unite with your own people. Church is for faith to grow and remind us what we are here for. It is food to our soul. You cannot find that at home. Does God not feed you daily? Then the least we can do is grab the spiritual food that feeds our soul with regularity.

You’ve brought out interesting thoughts and questions. Even though bad things are happening in the world, it’s also happening in the churches. The greed that some Pastor’s have isn’t how the church suppose to run. Satan has put his people in a lot of churches to follow him instead of God. You need to find a church that doesn’t have a lot of members in it and see if the Pastor is going to preach about Jesus Christ, Satan and He’ll; Gods second coming. If they do then it’s a good church because it’s old teaching. Look up these two scriptures about going to church which is Acts 2:42 & Hebrews 10:25. A Christian Blog sounds good and maybe one day I would have one. May God Bless You and Keep You!

“Jesus is the son of the living God. He lived and died and rose again and who ever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life!” I think declaring that is one of the most important things we do in this life like you said. The word is not about being mean or restricting you from living a great life.

The opposite is true because God knows that we need order to thrive. On your point about wives obeying husbands I think that the condition is that the husband must be obeying God. God is the head of the husband and the husband is the head of the house. A true follower of God will obey his word and not lead his family off the straight and narrow path.

That is not to say he should be perfect, but earnestly be seeking God to help him be the best he can be. This is the type of man I would like to be! You are correct that the Enemy is the ruler of this world (for now), and that is why sin is becoming more acceptable in the world’s eyes. Sin makes it hard to stay on the path, but God is always with you to help you.

I honestly hope that people will see past all the lies told about Jesus and our Father and come to him to experience perfect freedom!

Thanks for this thought provoking post!

    Spiritual Life,

It is great to see someone doing a Christian blog; I am doing one also.

Your article on the world v the Church is well received.

We should pray for those who are Christian persecuted in the middle east and elsewhere; the world is so evil towards Christians as directed by the devil.

Even in the United States where we are supposed to have freedom of religion, Christians are attacked with a vehement political agenda against us and teaching our kids to be against God in the schools.

God Bless You and keep up the good work.

    • Alexander,
So pleasing to know there are more out there sharing the truth and light within so many lies and darkness. Unfortunately, we too get persecuted in the USA, just differently. The persecution comes against whst people know.

  7. Tiffany Domena says:

Hi Linda! I completely agree with your article about how the church is the set apart people, otherwise called “the Bride of Christ”. As you said, many people don’t see that the people are the church. As a result, they put an emphasis on making the building fancy, praying to sanctify the building, and ritualizing behavior rather than seeking genuine transformation and discipleship of the people. Great reminder!

  8. freddy says:

A lot of people nowadays suffer from depression than before, there are more and more cases of suicide reported this new millenium than before. We have a lot of churches that are more focused on generating money for their pastors than healing souls, people tend to lose hope as a result. How can one continue to be spiritualy strong in this WORLD without having to be associated with any CHURCH?

    • Linda says:

I totally get what you’re saying.
It is really sad but I believe that GOD uses each church in a different way.
Keep in mind that there are all kind of ministries.
I for instance, am involved in outreach ministry.
This is a kind that can help in depression.
