Church vs World ~ Choose your path with wisdom

What is the Church?

Many people have the concept that the church is the building where believers go to praise the Lord. However, that definition is incorrect. The church is actually the body of Christ; while the building where one reunites is called a congregation.

“Now you are Christ’s body,
and individually members of it.”

(1 Cor 12:27)

One becomes part of his body the moment one decides to make a declaration of faith, proclaiming his or her salvation. Not just because one say’s it; but because one truly means it. If one did not truly mean it; one did not get saved. Many may speak it; but few will mean it.

“He is also head of the body, the church;
and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. “

(Col 1:18)

Being head of the body indicates the church is His bride. For he created the earth and everything including science, he is the beginning. For Christ rose from the dead on the third day of being crucified and left his spirit in us; named holy spirit; he is the firstborn from the dead. He is the beginning and the end; without placing him as our number one in life; our life will be in confusion. Once this is being understood, one knows what pure and real love is. For he died for us all and is taking care of us as we live.

“And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church,”

(Eph 1:22)

The church means the family of Christ. So we must submit to him as we should biblically submit to our parents. If he gave us power as the church to do what Jesus did; then we must obey and spread the good news that JESUS LIVES. There is nothing more besides this that we could possibly do.

“For the husband is the head of the wife,
as Christ also is the head of the church,
He Himself being the Savior of the body. “

(Eph 5:23)

What is the world?

As mentioned earlier, He is the husband and his body is the wife. Shouldn’t a husband love his wife with all his heart, all his life, and all his soul? Well this is just a preview of how much He loves us. Shouldn’t a husband take care of his wife? This is what He does for His wife, the church. His body is being taken care of. However, we must submit to His law and this will only be done through obedience. However, the world is what you see around you. Do you ever feel like you can’t press on? That is because the world is full of destruction and abomination such as; oppression, wrath, bitterness, identity loss, abuse, unforgiveness, unfaithfulness, lies and so on. This is the world; the type of thing one sees every single day, everywhere one goes. Ain’t that true? Failure of obedience and faithfulness towards Him. Because one who is not obedient and faithful to Him, will not be faithful nor obedient to others.

If you can deal in the Church, you can deal in the World.

Pastor Joshua Reyes

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

Ephesians 6:12

This is a perfect response to when one wonders why people in the world are full of wrong doing. The daily temptation within these wrong doings is not one’s fault; but the enemy’s; only because the battle is not against flesh and blood but against principalities. However, making the choice in obeying the temptation is one’s fault. Following these disobedient choices  are  also injustice coming from the church because the church is the body of Christ. What example is the church placing if it isn’t obedience in Christ? The enemy is after its souls; to bring more people to quit believing in Christ. Except, the church is filled of biblical principles which will sustain the church for the biblical principles is the law, God’s law. His law. While the world stands for doing whatever it is one cares for, which are the temptations the enemy places within one.

Who is the head authority of the world?

Unfortunately, the enemy. The enemy’s name is Satan or worldly known as the devil. He was God’s right hand ; an Angel. But he got prideful where he wanted to get rid of God. Therefore, God defeated him and created the Seoul; known as the pit of hell where he lives for eternity. He had to create it so Satan could stay there and only become prince of the world and not God’s children. He made him prince of the world so people could continue to seek Him; for the word was already written.

You are correct.  For too many years Christians have used the word “Church” the wrong way and I, too, have been guilty of this even when I knew that the Church was the body of believers.  It has become linked to a building.  I understand better now.

We are NOT going to Church… we ARE the Church, part of His (Christ) body of believers and He is the head. We are to be in the world but not a part of the world.  A light in the world that shines truth in the darkness.

We, true believers, will be at odds with the world until Satan is put in his place by God Who has already won.

Look around.  He, Satan, knows that his reign over the world is coming to an end.  He is working overtime.  The world is in more chaos than it has ever been.  What was once good is now bad and what was bad is now good.  This won’t be so for much longer I think.  Could we be near the end?  Are we ready to give an answer for the hope we have within?

God Bless you as you continue to be a light to the Internet world and the world around you.

I read through your post and found myself finding out a few things that I didn’t know.  First off, I have never heard a church described the way you did and it totally makes sense.  A congregation is such an inclusive word.

As with faith, it is important to have a connection to both your church and your family.  The way the quotes break down all the different meanings in scripture.  We always think we know what it all means, but reading your posts, always makes me feel like I have a much better understanding of faith. Good job.

Great article and thought provoking. I grew up in a church where the building was sacred, or so it seemed. Everyone always got dressed up and put there best performance forward. There were many times I would see families arguing in the car and then get out and act like they were the biggest saints in the world.

I guess I’m wondering though. Do you think being part of the body of Christ requires you to be part of a church or can you do that with watching sermons online and just reading and praying on your own?

    • Rick, to answer your question, the body of Christ are the followers of Christ who live according to His word and live in the Holy spirit who guides them. Congregating is required to gain, renew faith and grow spiritually everyday hence; one must grow. However, one can attend a congregation (building) and not be part of His body. and vise versa.

Your article defining and contrasting the church and the world was interesting and informative.  I am a priest in the Episcopal Church.  I agree with your definition of the church.  The church is the body of Christ here.  I looked through the website and found it easy to navigate with very stimulating and informative articles.  I hope to spend more time looking through all that you offer.  I would add to your article on the church and the world: If anyone does sin, we have an advocate, Jesus Christ the righteous, and he is the payment for our sin.  Thank you for the article and the site.

Many people do not really know what the church is and I’m pleased you have taken your time to explain it better and using with words from the scripture. The church is a what saves us from the evils of the world and yet people have neglected the church and embraced the world. This is once her sad situation I which saddens me when i think of it. People are lustful of the things of the world and don’t give credits to the church. I urge us all to go back to ways of God. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed reading your thought-provoking article.
Most importantly, giving a clear definition of a church using the word of God.
It’s sad that some people think the church refers to the building people go to every Sunday for worship.
These days it’s not easy to find a genuine congregation where people worship God in spirit and truth.
And it’s not uncommon to come across disloyal people and hypocrites among the so-called believers.
Your site will go a long way to spread the gospel of truth.

My husband got me into going to church and made me a believer. You need that someone to guide you, not only Christ, but your life long partner as well. Going together to visit Christ is what couples should be doing.

Don’t go on your journey alone, even though Christ is with you, having your partner by your side means everything.

Thank you for this amazing read,

For me, science and spirituality are necessary and must be studied objectively. I knew the message of the gospel in my adolescence, although before I was reluctant to these issues, I think it makes a lot of sense. Each one must do his research with objectivity and respect the different positions. Thanks for sharing the message.

Reading some of the comments of course this is a touchy topic. Most people can relate to it however we have firm believers as well as non. That is the way it will always be. Just like believing everyone is good but we all have evil in us. The devil was once an angel. We always try to “VS” things when we should all just come together and stop “VS” things.

    • Trevor,
Vs. things is unfortunately part of differentiating. Just like there are different vocabulary words which contain similar meanings; yet are used differently. It is the same thing with our daily lives.

  11. Stacii says:

Religion is a very sketchy topic as everyone has a totally different opinion of what everything is. Different religions, having different believes thus creating so much controversy among groups. Your definition of the church is very informative and I really appreciated the use of scriptures for more clarity and additional information. The scriptures were very helpful and gave much insight.

  12. Matthew says:

Please don’t judge me when I say this but I have been looking around the internet looking for proof that Christ actually exists

I have been to many churches in my lifetime and was always led to believe that the church was the house of God.

Is that not the correct answer?

At an early stage in my life, I believed in God and Jesus but my dad died when I was just 11-years-old so all the faith that I had went out the window with my dad leaving me

the church tried to help me through it but I couldn’t bring myself to believe that it was Gods intention to take my Dad from me at an early stage of my life

If I am to believe such a thing, I must believe that the Devil took him from me, But Why?

    • Mathew,
There is no time limit of how much time we should be alive. It is different for everyone. My sister died very young. and what helped me recover was the fact that I was getting to know God. I didn’t question it only because I had the following loud and clear in the back of my head: People come and people go in different times. Pain is part of life and it is that; that makes us grow. Only God decides when we die and though there are times “accidents” or “suicides” happen, in the end, it is God who gives the enemy permission. The enemy cannot perform certain tasks without God’s permission. “But why would he hurt me?” one may ask. Well, I always turn it around: How would my life be if my sister hadn’t died? I know for sure, things would have been very difficult due to the situations that occurred later on. When God closes a door, he opens seven more; which are all blessings.

  13. Lakia says:

I totally agree with you saying the church is the body. Sometimes people forget you can praise God anywhere because you are the church. Since most people are churches they lead their church straight into the world.
